Pitman arm puller bend in half.......

I bought a pitman arm puller and the damn thing bent in half.... It wasnt a cheap puller either, not a snap-on but no ebay brand. Anyone else have a problem like this? Why didnt it work! The box is off an S10, just trying to swap my stock arm for that one and it's a pain.

I meant bent in the title...

Re: Pitman arm puller bend in half.......

Sometimes I think the pitman arms are welded on. . . Heat is helpful. Get a rag and soak it in water, wrap it around the output shaft right where it comes out of the box. This is to keep the internals and the seals cool.

Put the puller on and tighted it up. Then hit the pitman arm with a torch (even a plumbers propane will do). Don't heat the shaft, just on the arm around the shaft. Heat it up and leave it sit for a moment. Then add some more torque to the puller. Some more heat, and wait a moment. Can also hit the pitman arm with a hammer toward the off direction. Not too hard, just enough to shock it a little.

Sooner or later it'll just pop off with a bang while you are standing there wondering what to do next.
