Spindles rubbing up against wheels...
I bought an 89 firebird and it's in great condition, except it makes this godawful sound when you turn it. So I got under it, and found that the spindles were rubbing up against the wheel! I'm wondering if it could be caused by tie rods that are just too long, or excessive toe? The car has stock wheels on it, so I know it isn't the wheels. I can attach a pic if necessary. Any ideas?

I'll check, actually, that could be it. I've never even heard of this before so I figured it would be something stupid like that.

not stupid at all. you probably did not put the wheels on, someone else did. that is why they are stamped front are rear.
happens all the time.

It's on the back of the wheel. I think the only common third gen wheels that are different between front and rear are IROC and GTA wheels.

the 16" factory wheels were front/rear specific, the front will have more dish area, ie. the center of the rim will be inset more. if you have factory 15" wheels then something else is wrong.
