car runs ok all night, but next morning wont run for crap...

i am having more problems with this car than ever before...

i got it running pretty well the other night. i drove about 40 miles or so all around where i live. it got late, so i went to bed. didnt touch anything.

the next day i went to start the car and it was as if somebody took it apart and put it together backwards. it wouldnt idle, would stumble BIG TIME upon acceleration, etc.

i literally couldn not even drive the car.

what is going on here?

i have tried it all, but nothing works...

It sounds the same as the problems that I have since I changed the stock intake and heads for the Vortec Performer and heads in early December. Exactly!!!!

The best that I have been able to figure out is what Grumpy posted in the below thread. I am very glad that I keep this information on file.

I am preparing to finish porting a set of LB9 tpi heads and reinstall the stock intake with them and check the results. I'm betting with the heated intake the drivability problems will go away and....I will once again start to get 20-22mpg even driving hard part of the time!

Maybe this will help. The air gap intake that you installed only made the problem worse I believe.

"The real basics"

Mixing the fuel:
Fuel is made into a reactionable state thru atomization, and or
vaporization. If you really look at some of the TBI manifolds they are very clever in what the do. ie., on some they take the heater water out of the back of the manifold, so in warmer weather the coolant flow thru the manifold for the heater is min., so in the winter the manifold runs alot warmer. What I did was run without a heater valve, so that there was always some coolant running to help vaporize the fuel. In order to make it most uniform in temp., I did block off oil reaching it, with a lifter valley pan. Also, ran a 180dF thermostat. This allowed for the best combo of cold hot, high low rpm drivibility. Everything has it's trade offs.

Vaporization:
This is where heat is used to evaporate the fuel so that it can be reactable with air in the combustion chamber.

Operating temps.:
No reason for running less then 180, and personally I get best results with 190dF.

General Conclusions:
TBI, you want to use a well thought out manifold. Single plane is best. You need to run some controlled amount of manifold heat.

Whats the weather like there? Here in St.Louis we don't get spring...it goes from winter to summer in a week.

It was 85*F and 90% humidity one day then it rained at night and dropped to 50*F and 30% humidity. Needless to say EVERYTHING had condensation on it. My gas tank was almost empty so it was full of water and it ran like $hit. The air filter was also soaked so I'm sure that didn't help much.

I think that when it's running well it's because of the intake getting heat soak. I remember several times that the car ran like crap and stopping somewhere and returning to the car and driving away and it ran great. You think that does not fu8k with your head?
