Need help....swapped intakes..now running bad
Mods are in my sig.
Truck was running great with the vAFPR set at 9psi idle and 15psi WOT. Swapped out the factory intake for an Edelbrock Performer carb intake with tbi adapter yesterday. I took out the factory 195 thermostat and replaced with a 160 thermo.
Here's the problem:
After starting the engine, I waited for engine to get to operating temp while checking for leaks, etc. I let it warm up to about 120 degrees, then turned it off, unplugged the timing sensor, restarted and set base timing to "0" degrees per factory spec (that's where it was before intake swap). Turned off engine, plugged timimg sensor back in , restarted and drove around the block - ran very good, and no leaks, etc. Re-checked timing.
Loaded up the truck and left Dallas for Houston. Drove for awhile and noticed engine temp did not rise above 120 degrees, and noticed truck not running as smooth. Check engine light came on then went out. Continued driving, hit a patch of rain, engine temp went down to 110 - check engine light again.
I figured the thermostat must be stuck wide open, and engine is running too cold.
After about 150 miles, I pulled over, found an Autozone, bought a 180 degree thermo and put it in. Truck has a noticeable rough idle now, but does run at 180 degrees.
I've got to return to Dallas tomorrow.
Just wondering what some thoughts are on this, and if I did any permanent damage.
Thanks, SC.

you might want to bring your timing up a little bit past 0 youll find youll likely get a nice improvement. The only thing you could have done with the extreme cold temp is load up the spark plugs with carbon from it being real rich. Other things to check for are vacuum leaks, ignition.. etc
in all likelyhood its probably something simple

How about resetting the ECM?

Thanks guys.
When I get back to Dallas this afternoon, I'm going to change plugs, clear the ECM, bump the timing to 2 degrees.
I checked for vacuum leaks before I left - spraying carb cleaner around the base, etc. Didn't find any. Truck seems to be running real rich. Will check fuel pressure, too.
What about the O2 sensor?
Think I might have fouled it by running so rich? If so, any way to clean it - it's practically brand new?
Thanks. On the way back to Dallas now. SC
