TBI Spacer installed - Interesting thottle issue
Not sure how everyone else got around this issue, but here
is my solution *heehee*
I had decided against getting the 1" spacer because I heard
they caused problems with the throttle linkage. I picked up a
3/4" one in a bulk purchase a few weeks back, so I decided to
try it out anyhow.
After unbolting the tab which keeps the fuel? lines in place
(Driver's side of manifold) I was able to lift the TB high enough to
slip the 3/4" spacer in there. I then proceeded to bolt it back in
place using 3" 18thread 5/8" bolts. ($0.18 at Lowe's)
I started the engine and found that the car idled at 2000+ RPM
After a little troubleshooting, I realized that it wasn't a leak
at the gasket but in fact the throttle was being pulled open.
I ended up unbolting the throttle bracket (under the coil) and
shimming it with 5 washers. That resolved the problem
Anyone have a better solution?
I havn't had any problems so far.

If it doesn't need much room you can take the lower dash off and bend the stop on the accelerator pedal bracket to give you a little more room. That's how I got the clearance I needed to fit in the Performer RPM intake with 1" thick adaptor/spacer.

Huh?
1 question, Where are you guys getting all this room for spacers? If I put 3/4" spacer under my TB my stock air-cleaner would be bangin' the hood! I have a 88 formula. Thanks

Ok. I guess I'll just have to go out and stare at it a little longer (so the wife says LoL ) maybe I can figure out what the problem is thanks.

I had the same problem but with a .5" spacer. I was able to bend the throttle bracket forward enough to return it to its stock location. I actually needed the spacer to make my open element clear the distributor.
