ok this all gets me I am very old school , ok gm was makeing 300+ hp in the 60's, you guys are running with new style parts and that is ok but me I have and will continue to run a carb on my stuff. fuel injection of anyknind is nice dont get me wrong. ok I have had a few nice runing injected motors. but i cant see spending the money to make a fuel injected motor that has less then 300hp and then giong to the track and making excuses for going slow. I am in a classic car club and they all go to a classic show and race every year and they are bragging about running 15:16 in the q-mile . I had a 78 elcamino SS with a 305 with 64cc 350 heads with 195in 160ex and a elderbrock matched cam intake carb and air cleaner with stock exhaust manifolds and 2inch with glass packs a th350 trans with B&M street shift kit and 2:43 posi . on 235-60-14 on stock steel rally wheels I ran 13:55 consistently. on pump gas. I ran an accel coil and stock hei dist. the fram roted out on me and I was forced to get ride of the car. I currently have a 1988 ford ranger with a 87 305 chevy yes chevy in a ford ranger with 64cc heads and stock q-jet and ram horn exhuast manifolds and 2-1/2 exh with no other mods a 700r4 trans and 308 gears and 235-75-15 tires I have not had it to the track yet but will soon and will let you know how it does.Iam planing on puting a supercharger on this motor and changeing the heads to 350 76cc off a 76 car no other changes to the motor other then procomp dist and coil . and maybe a 3:55 posi rearend from a 92 explorer.

Nice information...then again, with todays FI engines making 300+ hp, running in the deep13's and getting 25+ mpg's...

I can see why you'd rather build an engine on a poorly mismatched 60's carb setup than runs slower and get's 8 mpg.

The reason why people stick with fuel injection is because of the overall drivabilty of the car. You can have your cake and eat it to. You can have a car with a glass smooth idle that gets 30mpg. You can't do both with a carb. It may be easier to tune a carb set-up in the long run but if you use your car as a daily driver a carb is out of the question. Easy cold starts and diagnostic abilities are just a few more of the things that make FI better than carb. It really has nothing to do with track times. You are compairing FI cars that were never intended to be performers. You are also looking at cars whose owners didn;t tune their set-ups correctly. There are plenty of cars running EFI that are just as fast as similarly equipt ones with carbs. The tuning is just different. The only difference is that the FI cars run smoother, last longer, and get better mileage. Just look at LT1, LS1, and LS2 cars out there that make 400hp and net 28mpg on the highway. They idle as if the motor wasn't even on and any problem can be diagnosed in minutes. Fuel injection in every way shape and form is better than a carb set-up. People run carbs because it is cheap and easy to tune. What does this have to do with heads.
