question for the rs guys

I'm looking at getting an 89rs. Its an auto 170,000 kms. Body and int are in great cond. This guy has also put in a few mods, such as: k&n filter, shift kit, 3"exhaust with flowmaster muffler. This sounds like a good car, does anyone have similar mods and how does this run for you?

I have a 1991 RS with the almost the same mods, minus the shift kit. My best 1/4 mile time is 16.2. With the shift kit you would probably run about .2 faster. If you can get it for a good price, go for it.

I love my RS. I've put so much into the suspension that it rides like it's on rails. Stock it might feel a little sloppy.

Sounds like it will handle really nicely, Camaro 89rs that is a great looking car,
Will the t-top factor play into the handling, if it does could I put some stabalizer bar in it? Thanks for the answers guys, if the car is still there I'll probably grab it.

if you get aftermarket suspension wok doen the thirdgens are be one of the smothest rides. after rebuiling most of my suspension my car rides extremly nice and handle very well , even in the crappy chicago weather ( although good tires are required)

I have a 92 RS with 100K miles on it and it still runs great. Doesn't burn a bit of oil and it handles pretty good but stock, doesn't handle as well as my 88 IROC. If I was going to keep my RS, I would make modifications to the suspension.

Strut-Tower brace and a new panhard rod. Best $250 you'll ever spend.

I read on one post where a guy took out the floor mat and it did wonders for the car and it didn't cost him a penny.

I read that too, sounds kind of fishy. What kind of impact should floormats have?

I checked out 2 89 rs's today. One is the one I listed in the first post at the top of this thread. The other is same car, with k&n, flowmaster, no shift kit. 210,000 kms on it, but the engine was rebuilt 30,000 kms ago. It ran really nicely, started up perfectly, fun as hell to drive. It is also a grand less than the other and has a nicer looking body. I want to get it checked out by a mechanic before I get it though, also is there anything I should look for on the car? Thanks guys.

First things first...get that t-top some subframe connectors. Then I would get a STB, then if you plan on having a lead foot: some LCA and panhard bars. Next upgrade I would do would be to get new springs and shocks. Then to top it all off I would get larger sway bars and a "wonder bar" or steering brace from Global west. Oh yeah, before the STB etc. I would make sure I had good rubber and plenty wide, 16x8 is good and tires aren't too expensive ($400 for 4). Thirdgen is a bottomless pit for mods. It came from the factory with too much potential .

Jprevost, thanks for the advice concerning t-tops. I've got one more to look at tomorrow, so I'll see how that one goes.
