TBI mods - vortec or not?
I am completley new to fuel injection builds, im used to carbed big blocks . On that note was reading up on Fast355's post and in it, he was talking a bit about 95 trucks and their computers. I have a 95 tahoe with a tbi 5.7 in it. (not vortec). My question...
I know that i will have to make some computer modifications and i am okay with that, as long as it isnt anything too crazy. Should i build a vortec motor, or not?
I want to go .30 over with my block, setup a cam, and intake. (and heads if i go vortec). Which direction will be best for a budget build, with a pretty noticable power increase. I like everything that Fast did in his post of the buildup. With a TBI system is there any better way to make power or is vortec the way to go in a budget build?
Thanks in advance. Josh

Vortecs are defiantly good heads, and wont need any mods if you use them with a mild cam that has around .460" of lift or less. Id say go with the vortecs and the GMPP intake. This will be a direct swap for the stock intake and has provisions for EGR if you need it.

can compression be bumped up, and still be able to work with my computer? should i switch to a roller cam setup? try to find a old vortec motor? or just do work to my current shortblock, and put vortec heads on it?
Sorry 4 so many questions, im learning alot about EFI as i go along. Thanx again.

first--you need to learn to burn chips or you need a buddy that can burn chips--mail order chips get you running but dont come close to what your motor is capable of<>plenty of guys on here burn chips and are just full on knowledge
answered in order
yes
lt1 cams are good TBI cannidates and will be easier for you to learn how to tune when burning your own chips
if you buy an long block vortec used-put in new bearings
if you put vortecs onto your short block-port the exhaust while they are off-its the limiting factor on these heads<---my opinion
