Bouncing oil gauge?
I have put in new lifters, timing chain and cover, and the cam off of a 1996 z28. With all that installed I still have the oil gauge bouncing up and down from time to time. It gives a little jump from 30 to 50psi and then back up it looks likes it has a mind of its own!!!!

This happened to me towards the beginning of the summer. Turns out the oil sending unit was shot. My oil gauge was always bouncing around. Sometimes it would go all the way to the right and just sit there. But that may be your problem. Hope that helps

Sounds like a bad sender or maybe a grounded/melted wire on the exhaust. Double check the wire and if that isn't it, replace sending unit.

Yep I had the same problem. My gauge would start out high drop down to 0 the go back up to 30 the it just stopped. After look through the boards deceided to change the sending unit(the bell shaped one at the top back of the engine next to distributer) and it solved my problems right away.

what if it is not there, the little ledge off the engine block sticking out from the intake manifold? one my T/a there is one back there but one my 92 lo3 firebird there is not and my sensor is screwed, so i just put a aftermarket one in that little hole behind the dist. and it works just fine, but i cant figure where is the orignal sender i prolly look at it every day and not even notice it.

firbird....
Have you looked right above the oil filter?
That's where the oil sender is on our 91 RS.
It's a real pain to get out though.

yea, i thought so i just thought that was something else but i was thinking that was the only thing it could be cause i took my engine out and exhanged all of the sensors and i knew what every one was but was not really sure what that one was but i thought it was something else, somewhere i herd that there was something that if your oil filter got blocked that a valve would open and bypass the filter so i just thought that was it.
