bad gas milage help!

Hey I have a 91 Camaro rs It came with a 305 from the factory. The guy I got it from had a 350 put in. They used the 305 intake, TB, I think everything but the block and heads are from the 305. Anyway it gets really bad gas milage. I have a firebird that gets twice the milage then the camaro. It does send a code 24 vss??? what where and how??
HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Vehicle Speed Sensor
Poor electrical connection, open or short in circuit, defective VSS; defective ECM, A fault in this circuit should be indicated only when the vehicle is in motion, disreguard code 24 if it is set when the drive wheels are not turning

First off, if you have an auto then the VSS is very important to gas milage. You're torque converter won't be locking up....ever. This isn't good for gas milage. Do you know the gears you have in the camaro? That could also be a problem.
I want you to do something for me, check to make sure you've got the 350 injectors on that 350. The TB is the same as the 305 but the injectors are different.
If you pop off the injector tops you should see a color on each of the injectors.
If they're the stock injectors you'll see green and white. If it's from a 350 you should see black and orange.
Here is the link:
http://diy-efi.org/gmecm/component_i...injectors.html
Now if you DO have a 350 and you're running 305 injectors you're starving the engine. The ecm will make up for it but you won't get very good gas milage.

Not sure on the gears. The injectors are from the 305. Do I just get a set for a 350 or would I have to change the ecm also?? About the vss What should I check fires?
Thanks!!!

GTauto, you can get by with an increase in Fuel Pressure, if you like. GO to the Tech Articles on the main page of this site and look for AFPR (adjustable fuel pressure regulator) artice and you'll get the gist...
