Football season is almost over, now i will have some time to work on my car! Alright now for the technical part of this post. My friend just bought a 5-speed cobra, do i have a chance with my 305 with mods, or should i just scrap the 305 and get a 350 crate motor? Thanks for you help.

school sux sorry it was late when i typed this post, my friend has a 88 cobra mustang. If i was going to do mods, i would probably go all out and do stuff like the exhaust, new headers, cam, etc.

The GT does the 1/8th in ~9.1s @ 80mph but the cobra did in under 8s at more than 90mph! That isn't slow. That car can do the 1/8 with a higher trap speed than most Lo3s can do in the 1/4!
Definatly need some power goodies AND major traction.

I tried racing a new cobra and I lost... but i really dont have good mods.. only K&N, air conditioning pump removes.. and a no cat exhaust... My good mods will prolly come this winter or even spring depending on if my dads nice and doesnt make me keep my car outside the garage with a cover on it which would suck...

First off, I'm pretty sure there were no Cobra's in 88, maybe a Saleen, but no Cobra. So, it's either a GT or an LX, either way with a 305, you're screwed- unless you pour major money into it. Why bother get the 350 and give yourself a chance!

Sounds like i've got a lot of work do to, i thinking this: screw the LO3 and put a 350 HO crate, i'm probably going to spend the same amount of money with the mods i would put in. Anyone know where i could find a decently priced 350 HO crate?

Bah, you can do anything with the L03. It'll cost cash, but if you do complete intake/exhaust, PROM tuning, cam/heads, and add a power adder like nitrous or a supercharger, you'll murder him.

forget the crate motor, find 350block, punch it 30over, by a stroker kit complete (383)balanced to 1/2gram, by a set of sr heads or trickflows, single plane intake, 454tbi, and burn you own chips. if you can hold the rubber to the ground you will run with the best of them. you can do all this for just about the same price as a crate engine. heads are the price factor. you don't need all the expensive internals like forged crank, forged pistions, 4bolt main. just get an eagle stroker kit c/w hyper pistons, cast crank and eagle rods. this will hold to gether for any street application (6000revs easy)
