Hey guys. Last summer the 700R4 puked in my 1989 9C1 Caprice. This summer I'm looking to get a tbi 5speed thirdgen. I'm hoping you guys can answer a few questions.

According to the 305 to 350 thread, the chip (ecm) in my caprice should be a 746, correct? Which means no hassle? So since I'll have both cars, everything should be a direct swap and all parts available to me?

What exactly is a "ESC MODULE"? And where is it and the ecm located?

Since I will only settle for a manual trans, will the check-engine-light be a certainty?

Is there anything I should be aware of since most swaps I see are with the LO5 from trucks?

the chip from the caprice wont work too well with the manual transmission for a few reasons. however the esc module from the caprice and the knock sensor from the caprice should be retained going into the third gen. the ecm 8746 is the same but the calibration for the auto trans will cause stalling and poor drivability. most likely a full exhaust upgrade would be a good idea and its a real good time to get into chip tuning so you can make your own calibration for the 350/manual trans combo. lots of info here on what your doing. its been done before. Good luck and enjoy. forgot to mention that the tbi unit from the caprice should go onto the motor in the third gen. the ecm is located in the passenger side under the dash, and the esc module should be mounted to the passenger fender on the caprice if i remember it has a 4 pin connector
