Death rattles
It finally happened.. After 16 years and 220 thousand miles my engine is dying. (10 years and 160K belong to me)
This weekend we could hear the knocking. I knew this day would come, but I was hoping it would be next year since it's not a daily driver anymore
I've got another engine lined up but it has 80K, it's also a 305 and has been in storage for a couple of years. I really can't afford a rebuild, or the shiny new 350 right now, and I have one year left of school to pay for.
My question: What do I need to do to the replament engine (new gaskets, seals etc..) since it's been sitting for so long (inside)?
thanks

Replacing valve seals why the engine is out is probably a good thing. I would just hope for no leaks around the intake manifold gasket and also look into replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets. If you were worried about the oil pan i would do that now too. Other than that just do the usual fluid changes and what not. Make sure that the block is completely drained and refilled. You probably have some bacteria growing in there. Do not yank the heads if you can avoid it and definately hope for nothing bad ie rust happened to your cylinder walls.
