The flanges on the header dictates which header gasket you use. Most street headers have round port flanges, and usually 1 3/4 or bigger race headers use the square port flanges.

I think he's talking about header to head gasket, which would be square port.

Yes,The exhaust ports on most all small blocks are square, but when you have headers that have round ports in the flange that bolts to head, you use round port gaskets. If you don't, you WILL have a terrible exhaust leak very quickly.

Exactly, If you ordered the headers for a specific application, like an 86 IROC with the LB9 305 TPI, then I bet he got square port headers, to match the heads.

Maybe, but the header flanges on both of my cars have round ports, so don't you think it may be a good idea to see what the headers actually have than to go ahead and buy square port gaskets, and then maybe have to send them back or get a refund on them?? He didn't specify what header he was going with, and if he goes with Hedman or Hooker, chances are he is going to end up with round port flanges, so why take the chance until he has the new headers??

Well Wolfpack, what headers are you getting?

If it were me, I'd wait till I got the headers and get the correct gasket at the local parts store. Buying the gaskets off of the net is a waste, shipping a set of $7.00 gaskets is not worth it to me.

Well im goin with the Headman headers and i've been reading that the gaskets they send with the kit are junk(seems like all standard header gaskets are) so i was wanting to go with the copper or Alum ones so i don't have to worry bout it a couple of months from now...thanks again
