Do putting thermal header wraps on your headers really bring down temperature?

Dont wrap your headers.........have them coated or do what ai did...sheild everthing else...wires,fuel lines. and then I put a 2.5 cowel induction scoop...haven't had a problem since....the tape will void some warrentys and alot of manfacturers say dont do it. Just an idea... Some other thoughts...

good idea, but i've heard the wrap will protect your hands and stuff. i've heard about a lot of people burning themselves like crazy on the headers, but if thats not a problem coatings are good

My headers cool down quickly after I shut off my car. The coating also reduces underhood temps.

Wrapping will also reduce underhood temp because it retains the heat underneath it.

I don't care about the warrenties but oh well lol But I think it will help under hood temp a lot

DO NOT USE WRAPS. Get the headers coated. If you wrap your headers moisture gets under them and cause them to rust....DO not do it.

Yeah that wrap stuff is not really created in mind for the everyday driver type car... it does keep them cool to the touch better than coating, but they still get too hot to touch eventually if you run the engine long enough, in my experience. Plus it looks like crap after the engine is run a while and you start spilling some chemicals on them here and there.

I have had headers(Edelbrock I think) on my cutlass since 97 with wrap and haven't had any problems. I pull the wrap off about every 2 years and repaint them black and put that thermo tech wrap back on them. Now they do rust a little, but I clean them, repaint them, and have no probs. Drive it every other day

Like others have said. Don't get the wraps. Will speed up rusting by trapping moisture and are a fire hazard.

Geez, either Mark thinks like I do lately, or, I think like Mark.

A guy I met, James from when v6fbody.com was around (who's still around, at camaroz28.com), had a 13 sec 3.8 V6 4th gen Camaro. (I hear he's in the 12's now.) He decided to wrap his headers. One day, the wrap caught fire! He had to replace all the wiring in a brand new car; I think insurance picked up some of the bill, but don't risk it.

Spend for the coating, or, apply one of those do-it-yourself high-temp coats for looks. http://www.eastwoodcompany.com has a few, and I think http://www.por15.com has one.

I bought the wrap but haven't installed it and probably won't so if anybody's looking for one I'll sell it to you.

I did redo my Edelbrock shorties with POR-15 like Tom suggested and they came out real nice. I haven't installed them either but here's a few pics of them sand blasted and painted.
