383 TPI Question
Hey guys, I have a concerned question and was hoping some of you could help. I just found out my engine is a 383. Ever since I bought the car it's had some problems, finally the cam took a dump, the previous owner torked the rockers down so far that the studs started to pull out of the head and he screwed up the cam. As I was tearing into it I noticed it's a 383. I'm changing the cam for a Compu Cam from Crane 2040 series, getting the heads redone, the guides were totally shot. The heads are 74cc chambers with 1.94 in. intake valves. The pistons look like they have a .100 in. dome, but after looking in manufacturer books and just comparing the piston, it shows I should be running 10.2:1 compression. Now when I had the car running, it ran like a champ, then all of a sudden it started backfiring through the intake. I also bought a fuel pressure regulator. My question is, could I get away with an 1988 350 automatic 3.27 gear EPROM? I think the injectors are 22# per hour, but not positive because they were in the car when I bought it. If I can't use the EPROM, could I atleast start it to break the cam in? I've been reading a ton of different posts and getting a lot of different opinions. I don't want to upgrade to a Holley or Accel system because I'm short on cash. Thanks in advance
