open element is killing me, i think??

ok, ive been experimenting with the open element air cleaner assembly, my first try i went by the mod pubs and left the sensor out on the block, well this caused my car to start overheating rediculously, well i went off, and my brother replaced the stock air cleaner, i just got it back, about a year later, after its been through some trouble. well this time i took it to the shop and drilled out holes for the crank case filter and the sensor, and mounted them in there, but since ive done this ive had some terrible results with overheating. i was wondering if this is directly responsible or if it could be just bad timing. it seems like it should be responsible since i had a bad past with it. should i just put the stock one on there and make a cold air or ram air??

Look in the TBI archives for a how-to...

Retains the stock sensors, preheated air, etc.
