Help shipping an engine
I went to Mailboxes etc. and got a quote to see how much it would cost to freight ship a SBC from Texas to Michigan. they quoted me at $200 for crating and $1,000 for shipping. Anyone know of a more cost effective way of shipping? I was thinking between 300-500 for shipping.

First off, do not go to mailboxes, etc. Waaaaaaayyyyy over priced. Did I mention they're insanely over priced. Contact a freight shipping company directly. Look up "freight" in the phone book. I had my engine shipped to me from Arkansas for about $107.36. I used Yellow Freight. 1800-610-6500. Good luck.

Try contacting Conway Freight Co. They delivered a engine from Texas to Ohio in three days for about $225. You may have to crate it on a pallet and ship to a business address for the best rates.
Hope this helps.

do you still need to ship the motor? i had my motor shipped from michigan to connecticut for like $270. As far as crating goes, the guy i bought the motor from built a real nice crate for me for just $25.

btw, i shipped it through unishippers. they didn't actually ship the motor themselves, they contact a bunch of shipping companies and find the best price. also, it cost me $270 to have it shipped right to my door. it would have been even cheaper if i had it shipped to a local terminal and just picked it up from there. http://www.unishippers.com was the company i went through
