New jersey is starting obd 2 emissions in place of the dyno test on june first for 96 and up. The south brunswick station is already doing it. If your Check engine light is on it will be a failure. If you cleared the codes while you were waiting in line it will also be a failure. If you want to avoid the test make sure you go before june first. You are allowed to inspect 2 months early. I figured I'd let everyone know. You have a better chance passing the dyno than the obd test

If you cleared stored and pending codes befoer you hit their tester, how are they going to know? I have several OBD-II vehicles, and I have the option of turning off the MIL or clearing the codes completely. Once they're gone, they're gone. There is no way I know of to retrieve them. This ain't Windows XP - you can't "undelete" the DTCs.

Vader, you sitting down? OBDII also reports whether the malfunction diagnostics have been run. So when you clear the codes you also clear the flags that state the ECM's OBDII diags have been run.

All diags not run, you fail.

Texas is doing this and it is a royal pain for some folks. The EGR diag for some cars almost never gets run, and they can't get their cars to pass the OBDII scan.

Right, but on the way to the test station, you should get a diagnostic routine. I didn't take literally the part about "clearing codes while waiting in line". Anyone sitting there with a laptop stuck to the port would be a red flag for me, too.

I thought the Tech-II allowed a forced diagnostic routine ¿?

New Jersey fails if any of the diags come up not ready or not run. This will fail people who legitamately reset the codes or had the battery disconnected for some reason. Its going to really suck for the people who left their gas cap loose and triggerd a code. I've heard it take up to 50 key cycle to clear it on its own.
