Help I screwed something up bigtime

I finally got my car back together after replacing my intake manifold gaskets. Now I can hear a ticking sound coming from the engine. Also if I step on the gas the car sounds like its choking. And lastly the car went from cold to 220* in about five minutes.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you have mis-adjusted valves, a major vacuum leak, and an air pocket in the cooling sytem.

You had to remove the pushrods to remove the gaskets, right? On a 2.8L you should have to. These engines are also good for airpockets in the cooling system.

Yes I had to remove the rods. How should I adjust the valves?

You did loosen them, correct? I think the 2.8 has a Torque Value. Meaning instead of 1 full turn past zero lash, it just gets torqued to a certain spec. Let me check.

I guess not. Just turn the engine over untill the exhaust valve is opening and adjust the intake, then turn it untill the intake is open and do the exhuast. It is the longest way to do it, but the easiest to explain. Turn the nut untill the pushrod cannot be freely turned (zero lash) and then turn the nut one full turn more.

Heh, the pushrods are between the lifter and the rocker arm. The rocker arm acts like a lever to push down on the valves. YOu have two types of valves, Intake and Exhaust, per cylinder. That means you have 6 intake valves and 6 exhaust valves. All 12 (6+6) need to be adjusted. (Poviding you did loosen the rocker arms when you did the gaskets). When you see the spring for the exhaust valve compress, the valve is opening, and you should do the one right next to it (intake) and vise versa. I hope this makes sense.

Whenever I'm doing anykind of internal engine mods, I always look for rotating pushrods, and adjust them accordingly.

Thanks for breaking it down to me GMTech. Oh one other question, is it better to use rubber valve cover gaskets or cork?

many will say rubber gaskets are better because you can reuse them, except my Mr. Gasket one's are cork and they work really nicely...they were all they had, too, so that was a deciding factor as well
