BFG Drag radials ???

What's the best way to get traction with these tires? A buddy of mines has a '72 Camaro with a worked 383, TH400, & 4.10 gears. He's not getting good traction of the line. With the wheel spin, he's still turning very low 12s. Should he do a heavy burnout with them or what? If any of u r using these tires, what works best 4 u?

A friend of mine had a set on a big block '68 Camaro and another set on a 355 S10....they work ok on the street, but the stink at the track. Do a light burnout to clean them off, but don't really heat them up. Also, don't drop to much tire pressure since they have a stiff sidewall.

Good luck!

Thanks. I think he dropped the pressure down 2 19psi. He's thinking about switching 2 M/Ts, but some say the Drag radials work 4 them. I'll give him the message, thanks.

The BFGs work great at the track. I run between 16 -18 lbs of air in them, depending on conditions. They do take a healthy burn out to get them stickey. These tire do not have the same compounds as a street tire. I give them a GOOD 2-3 second burn out. They do work better when they get a little worn. By the way they are NOT GOOD on the street. Once it gets a little wet look out.

M/T's are the favorite for street class big boys here. I don't personally have them, but know an '83 Monte and '66 Impala w/454, and '74 Chevelle w/502 that run 11's at 5800' Bandimere. All say the M/T's are much better than BFG's, and a good burnout (4-5 seconds after smoke) gets them there. They run at lower pressure than what the manufacturer says, 12-15 psi.

I agree five7, MT ET street's are the way to go for the weekend cruise. And Hank, I meant "on the street" racing, not slalom in rain. Your right there, they do stink in water. But on somewhat street or blacktop, I have found they do ok on the street, but ET Streets are taking over popularity here too.

Thanks again, I'm sure he'll be pleased with all the feed back. The BFGs he has r still fairly new and this is his 1st time 2 the track with the car since it's been finished. The car is definitely capable of 11s. I'll tell him 2 break the BFGs in 1st before the switch 2 M/Ts. Thanks.....

Watching Horsepower TV awhile back I say an episode where they were talking with the NMCA boys at an event. They all said the BFG's worked great once they got the tread off. I don't know personaly though. I have a good freind running M/T Sportsmans on his 600hp '73 Z/28. He doesn't like them much, but then he hasn't had anything to compare them to. Just my 2-cents.

I back up to the water without getting in it and start smoking them (without holding the brake) until they catch and launch me foreward. I then back up about 1/4 of a mile, listen to the track dude gripe and threaten me, stage, and go. They will hook great under this method, I have pulled 1.7 60 foots with them.
