4.4 liter chevy v8
I have a 4.4 liter chevy v8 (267) sitting around.. I'm might be going insane, but I just had a weird idea of trying to build it up prety strong... just think what a mustang owner would do if they were beaten by a small 267... Hmmm... let's see.. get it to crank out 400 hp and i'll have 1.5 hp per cid. hmm.. anybody have any suggestions on any parts to use?
the engine right now makes around 135 hp.. so it needs alota help...

no idea how chevy gets 267 CID, but i'm guessing something like a 305 bore and 3" stroke. it should wind up fast with the short stroke. i'd bet the rods and like any other SBC ,so you could get good rods, forged crank would be a custom deal. any head should bolt up, and i believe you'd need aftermarket heads to make it flow correctly. big draw back would be large chambers for a 4" bore. for pistons i'd guess that you'd have to go custom. it'd be fun to play with, but to do it right you'd have a lot of money in parts and could easily make more power cheaper out of a 350. there isn't anything wrong with taking a differant path, but you should know waht you're getting into before you start out.

That motor has a 3.48" stroke, same as a 305 or 350, and a correspondingly smaller bore. It has all the disadvantages that a 305 has compared to a 350 such as high stroke-to-bore ratio, valve shrouding by the bores, etc., except magnified. IMHO it is the least performance-oriented small block ever. I would advise against wasting any money on it. Against my advice, a customer brought me a MC with one, about a 78 or 79 IIRC; he paid me to put a Comp 252 cam in it and some kind of small 4-barrel intake and carb on it (it came with a DualJet, like a 6-cyl... imagine that), it was still a total dog. That was one of the most disappointed customers I ever had. How on earth you could get one from 135 HP (probably an overly optimistic estimate as it is) to 400 is totally beyond me.

the 267 has a 3.500 inch bore, and a 3.48 inch stroke (same stroke as a 350). i should have mentioned that earlier... silly me.. and it uses the 5.7 inch rods
I know it's a stupid idea, but I have the engine sitting there, and just feel like doing something stupid
just think of the expression that would come across the face of a mustang gt owner when they get stomped by a 4.4 camaro...
and if this works out, i'll make a 2.5 camaro do the same naturaly aspirated....
i have way to much time on my hands...
