Tach Light
I've got an Autometer 5"Monster tach, it works perfectly except
for one minor detail, the background light that illuminates the entire face @ night is out. Not the shift light. Could this be a short,
blown fuse, faulty bulb? Let me know what you think.
BTW, would taking apart the entire tach be nessesary?

Did you hook up the aftermarket tach? I take it you didnt
IT could be a bad ground/the power feed... I would track down the wires that exit the back... when did the light come on? when u turn your headlights on I take it? Go into the harness there, someone may have tapped into it and you'll find a bad connection for the power feed (sorry i dont have colored wires for you to go by)
you'll see another wire on a bolt or somewhere connected to the frame, thats your ground. make sure its nice n clean
you wont have to take apart your tach, those bulbs hardly go out but probe all the wires and rig up a test light n see if you got juice n go from there..

yeah there should be a white wire going to your interior lamps fuse, black is ground, red to switched 12v, and green to distributor/coil/box. check it out like he said and then go for the bulb.

Update
OK, I've checked all wires(ground/interior/etc.),checked for any blown fuses[none by the way]and still haven't found the culprit.
In fact now my whole tach is dead. What else could this be?
BTW the tach is engaged by the ignition.
Thanks DUECE.

if its dead all together now, its probably junk...
You can trace the wire that goes to the coil and see is its a bad connection.... aslong as u have a ground and that coil wire hooked up, it should least read
if not, its probably junk, i know they are known to go bad.

is a faulty bulb. That's the only thing else it could be(I hope).
Now I have a new question. Has anybody ever replaced one?!
Thanks for all the help.DUECE

I was curious if you still have the factory tach? If you car came with it. I was asking because I see ALOT of Hondas running the factory tach, and an aftermarket one. I dont know if I have a point, but it seems gay to me to have two tachs....

The original tach is disabled. I have the aftermarket tach
mounted right under the two center vents below the dash.
Having two functional tachs would defeat the purpose of having
an aftermarket tach. Good point though.DUECE
