Car: 1985 Z28
Engine: 383
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt/3.73
No more 400hp 305

So after my post about how I was going to build a 305 to get 300-350 horsepower out of it, I decided not to and took five7kid's advice. haha I stumbled across a complete 350 from a 72 monte carlo ss that a guy at my church can get me for $100. The plan is to bore it .030 over, stroke it to 383, and then put basically the same parts on it that I was gonna put on the 305. These consist of:

Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Comp Cams Magnum 280 cam: 230 duration @.050" and .512" lift w/1.6 roller rockers for intake and exhaust
HEI distributor
Accel 8mm plug wires
ported/polished stock heads w/2.02/1.6 valves or aluminum heads, not real sure yet
Hooker 1 3/4" long tube headers
exhaust cutout before cat
Catco high flow cat
3" cat back exhaust to Flowmaster 80 series
10:1 CR
Holley 750 double pumper carburetor
Melling high volume oil pump
new gaskets, bearings, hoses, etc.

Approximately how much horsepower would this net me? How long will the stock 700R4 and 10 bolt last behind this? I also want to get a 3000 stall torque converter and assume I will have to replace the transmission and rear axle eventually. I really like the overdrive in the 700R4 but I don't know if it will cost too much to get it built stronger. For the rear axle I am guessing maybe a posi 12 bolt with 3.73 gears. What mods if any will be needed to make this axle fit? I am planning on getting new lower control arms and subframe connectors, possibly from Spohn. My goal is to get over 450 fwhp and into the low 12's. Will this setup accomplish that goal? I hope I provided all the necessary information. Also, this car will not be a daily driver, just one to take out and have some fun (i.e. eating ricers for dinner, smoking mustangs, etc.) every once in a while.

Adam

not that it matter as far as output but i'd drop the HV oil pump. you need to settle on some heads before anyone can make any sort of educated guess. there's a world of differance between stock heads and a world of differance between stock heads and aluminum heads. how long the parts in the drivetrain last depends on how you apply the power not how much you have.

I know if I have a light foot they will last a while but I don't know how long I would be able to do that haha. How about that setup with AFR 195s?

Not enough information to even make an educated guess.
