350 into a 4WD S-10
How much power can the transfer case in an S-10 withstand? Anyone know?

Ravenous,
Let us know...sounds like fun though.
Actually, if the S-10 had a 262 V-6 the swap should be fairly direct. You might need some forward-offset engine mounts, but I've seen these available for V-8/Astro conversions, so they are probably available for your application. The later S-10s have a 262 rated at 190 HP. I would suspect that the case is designed to tolerate at least that much once in a while. The big question is how much TORQUE can the box handle.
For those that think HP is everything, even though the Cadillac Northstar makes about 300HP, how long do you think the trans connected to it would last with a "wimpy" 230HP 454 truck engine? I'll start a pool, and I get to pick first...

I have done many v8 s10 swaps and they are a blast. The strongest transfer case came in the bravada. Check out www.jagsthatrun.com They can hook you up with almost any thing you need. I helped build one 4wd v8. It was a short bed that we put a 95 lt1 in. The frame had to be notched in the front for the accesories and the oil pan was a custom job. It used the bravada case and has been fine for 3 years. Its a full time 4wd setup in this one. Runs 13.3's all day long, no tire spin. My current one is a 85 s10 blazer that Im getting ready to put all the old tpi stuff from my z on.

First, I'm sure that putting a 350 into an S-10 is a piece of cake. I watched them put an LS1 in an S-10 on "Trucks" (on TNN) and it only took, like, 15 minutes. It's gotta be easy!

My current daily driver is an '85 S-10 Blazer 4x4 with a 350 (hey, I live in MN). The engine has never been dynoed, but I'm guessing at least 350HP & 350ft-lb (it's enough to beat mildly modded LT1's if that gives you a better idea). The transfer case and axles are all stock, and I've never had a problem after 4 1/2 years and 60k miles, and more races than I can count. If you have any more questions, let me know.

If it's a 4.3 everything will bolt right up. The manual trans will hold a mild 350 and the auto from the 4.3 and some 4 bangers is a bonafide 700R4. Tha same trans-case is used in the 1/2 ton trucks IIRC. I don't think you'll have any probs with it. What you need to watch is the mount adapters, the jags-that-run (JTR) one move the trans and case back 3/8 of an inch. The advanced ones don't. On a 4WD the stock 350 manifolds are rumored to work. Jegs and Summit both sell the parts to do the conversion. I have dealt with Advanced Adapters for as far back as I remember and I have never been steered wrong by them and thay will spend hours with you on the phone explaining what you need and they won't sell you parts you don't. If you do call them they have some flexability on the price so don't let them charge you alot, I got them down around 20% on the whole order the last time I called.
