Headlight module? Do you mean one of the relays or maybe the motor assy?

Nope. The module that goes on the firewall behind the brake booster.I just went to the Pontiac dealership, and they said they would get me one for $145,so I'm looking for alternatives.

Beefy,

You mean the isolation relay?

That DPDT relay is only worth $145.00 at a Pontiac dealership (for Me to POOP on!)

There is also a driving/fog light interlock relay that is probably another $110.00 item at the Poncho Store, or $15.00 at a good parts store.

Thene there is a SPDT relay at each headlight door motor, $1,250,936.96 through Pontiac, $8.00 at NAPA. (GM Part No. 1D10T)

I hope you don't buy your light bulbs there, too. A 2057 is pro'lly gonna suck another $50.00 out of your wallet.

Drive past the Ought-Tow-Zone and Pep Girls stores to an auto parts house. Standard Motor Products has a relay for you. You must have a NAPA in Neenah or Menasha - there are three in Oshkosh.

Autozone, and Napa both carry a relay for 82 to 86 Firebirds.I guess from 87 and up the headlight doors are controlled by a module. I have an 88 Firebird specific GM manual and it states it as the headlight door module. It's part#16523917,$88 through gmpartsdirect. But I think I'll hit the junk yard this morning.I don't know how to post pictures here, otherwise I would post the schematic.Vader,I actually live in Neenah and there is a Napa 3 blocks from me.I went there y-day, and oddly enough, the guy that waited on me has an 89 f-bird with one headlight that won't go down.I'm originally from your neck of the woods, where there seems to be a few more resources.

Beefy89, I went through the exact same hassle last week. Finally traced it to the module, and called around. I was quoted $225 Canadian for it. No friggin way.

I went to a junkyard and found one on an 89 Trans Am. They wanted $35 Canadian for it. Awesome.

BTW, it looks like all Firebirds from 87-92 have these modules. I've got an 87 V6, but the headlight setup is the same.

Vader, thanks, I finally know what the damn thing is called. Where did you get that diagram?

Thanks for all the help you guys.I went to the"pick it yourself"junkyard this morning and found a module. When I went in to pay for it I noticed there were signs all over that said CASH ONLY and I only had $10 on me so the guy"with a smile" said he would just charge me double the next time I come in for something. After I put the new module in,the headlights still didnt go down,so I ran over to Twilight Zone and picked up a headlight switch which was the problem all along, but at least I've got a replacement module if it ever really does go out. Thanks again

Re: Headlight door module

Beafy89, I have the same problem with my 87 TA. Ive got one door that will flip up but won't flip back down, the other door doesn't move at all. I think it could be either the headlamp door module gone bad or the switch. But the module is clicking over and seems to be functioning fine. I traced all the wires and replaced the relay switch and ohms tested everything and it's all functioning. How did you fix your switch? What exactly was wrong with it your switch?

Can anyone help?
