Car: 1988 Black Firebird
Engine: Chevy 350ci
Transmission: 700 R4
Downshift cable to tranny is too short.
Attached to the carb is the gas pedal cable and the downshift cable to the tranny to downshift gears when you punch it. I have the gas pedal cable hook-up fine, but I'm having difficulty trying to figure out how to attach the downshift cable cause it's about 1.5in. to 2in. too short. Any suggestions as to how i can properly extend it or even jerry-rig it would be helpful.

Did you install that cable from the tranny or someone else? There is 9'16" bolt with a bracket that secures that cable to the back of the engine. Loosening that bolt might allow you the slack you need. It is located on the passenger side of the engine and can only be reached from underneath the car as I found out the hard way. You will also need a ratchet, a very long extension and a 9/16" socket. I have found that a 1/4" drive set works best.

It's originally of V6, but I rebuilt and V8 and put it in, that's why i'm having difficulty getting the slack I need.

You might have to replace the cable then. The V6 cable is shorter, but you can still try what I mentioned in my first post, it might work. Won't know till you try it. It's all quality time.

Let's be clear about one thing: It's not a "downshift cable" or "detent cable", as was called in the "old days" with Powerglides and TH350s.
It's the transmission "throttle valve" cable, or TV cable, and with a TH700 it is critical! Don't fool around with this - get a proper V8 cable, or a universal unit from Lokar. Get it set up right before you try to drive the car.

Okay, well, now that I know the V6 "throttle valve cable" is shorter than the V8s, I'll take the "throttle valve cable" from the '85 that I originally got the engine and tranny from and hopefull it'll fit properly.

Wasn't trying to put you down, just trying to make sure the info was understood. Please accept my apologies if it seemed otherwise.
Kickdown cables weren't critical to operation. The TV is, and if mal-adjusted, tranny life will be short.
Getting the one from the donor is a very good idea. You hadn't mentioned that it was available.
