AIR Pump making noise?
Lately it sounds like the bearing went out on my AIR Pump. At least I think it's my air pump. It's the big silver thing right next to the belt tensioner. Is that the AIR Pump? If so, how much will a replacement one cost? And are there any tricks to getting it off that I need to know?
Thanks!

Do you have your AIR attahced? If so they will lock up if you leave the pump on the front acessrories with nothing else attached to it. Every other person on this site removes theirs so finding one shouldn't be a problem. I would sell you mine but mine froze up just like yours.

It makes a rattling noise, and if you put your hand on it you can feel it vibrate a little. I haven't had the opportunity to have anyone help me diagnose it any further, i.e. if it increases with RPMs. I just know that it's really easy to hear at idle, but not so much at speed. I think this is just due to the fact that I'm inside the car at that point and can't hear over the exhaust...
Thanks!

Your local parts store would love to sell you one. And, it won't be used, with the same problem as the one you have, just maybe not as far advanced if you're lucky.
Last one I bought, when I was living in California, was about $30 or $35. Not worth worrying about trying to cheap out for a used one.

Oops.
So it turns out that it's not the AIR Pump. I realized this as soon as I pulled my head OUT of my *** and actually looked and diagnosed the noise. I believe that the pulley making the racket is the Idler pulley. The counter kid at Schmuck's auto confirmed this, however, I don't always trust them (This is the same guy who told me that my engine was not a 305, rather, it was a 302, because it was 5.0L, and all 5.0L's are 302's.)
So is this in fact my idler pulley? If so, what's required to get it off? Tips? Tricks?
