Fuel filter question

The other week I finally got around to changing my fuel filter, but when I disconnected the lines fuel just kept pouring out of the lines. There had to be atleast 1-2 gallons on the ground. Do any of ya'lls fuel lines just pour out gas when you changed the fuel filter? Out of all the fuel filters I've replaced, the most that came out was a handful of little drops (unless someone played a joke on me and turned the key on while I was changing one). I just found it odd that my car did this and wanted to know if anyone else experienced this.

Yes, you need to be ready with some sort of cap or plug, and change quickly. Depending on the temperature (and pressure) within the tank, whether the fuel cap is on or off, and level of fuel, it may pour out or may only drip.

As always, take all necessary precautions around liquid and vaporized fuel.
