I found that my A/C is leaking from the high pressure port on that line that comes off the evaporator I think it is (silver can). My question is if I take that line off for repairs can I run the car without A/C or even with A/C off will it come out.

There are no isolation valves in the system, as you might normally find in a residential or commercial system. Therefore, you cannot remove any lines from the A/C system without losing the refrigerant charge.

If you leave the system open for more than an hour or so youll have to replace the "silver can". If for instance you want to take the line off for a while and also replace the accumulator, i mean "silver can", then you would have no problems driving the car. You will however lose all your refrigerant the second you pull the hose off. If its r12 that can be some expensive stuff.

I would recommend taking it to a professional. If you really must do it yourself have someone recover the refrigerant for you. Replace the line and take it back to them. Hopefully theyll be able to cut some kind of deal on the refrigant due to the fact they still have yours in their machine.

Well all the refrigerant is gone cause of the leak. I already have it converted to the R134. And it is not on your pic but on the evaporator there are two lines one is for low pressure test and one is closer to the outside and is for high pressure. The high pressure is leaking. The refrigerant is gone and as far as i can tell the oil only leaks out with the A/C on. I might try to take it off and solder the fitting.

With no refrigerant in the system it shouldnt be able to turn on. I would also recoment replacing the accumulator considering how long the system was open..
