Smokey Yunick, R.I.P.
Sorry, this is sorta non-tech, but about a very technically oriented guy.
It's probably mostly the older guys on the board who know who Smokey was, but he passed away today at age 77 after a bout with lukemia. Certainly, a wealth of horsepower-building knowledge passed away with him.
For those who are unfamiliar, Yunick was probably the very first guy to hop up a Small-Block Chevy. He definitely built the first one to win a professional race, the 1955 Southern 500 at Darlington (beating a bunch of Hemi powered Chryslers in the process). If it wasn't for him and his pioneering efforts, who knows what us Chevy guys would be wrenching on...
I propose we all lay a dark patch of rubber in his honor.
