Lost HVAC, Help!!

Just wonderin what could be wrong, the controls don't seem to work at all, and nothing comes out of any of the vents. I'm thinkin maybe the HVAC control pannel might have somethin wrong cause it always mis-selected (i.e. I'd have it on defrost and the heater would be on) Any idea would be appreciated.

Could be that, more likely it could also be that the connector in the brown wire that supplies it its 12V could be burned up, as usual.

Take it out of the dash, and follow the single brown wire by itself back into the harness away from the control head. About 12" away from the ctrl head itself you will find where that one wire from the A/C wiring (an assembly totally separate from the rest of the dash wiring) plugs into a pigtail off of the main harness. Take it apart in case it doesn't just fall apart, and look at it; I'd bet it's burnt itself to ash, just like they always do.

thanks, I'll try that this weekend...it also hisses when I select a setting. Would that be the selector itself? Anyone else have ideas as to what it could be?

That's a separate defect. Since all the doors are controlled by vacuum motors, that would explain why your air comes out the wrong vents. The little vacuum switch thing is FUBAR too, or the vacuum lines are off of it, or something like that.

86Z,

You can remove and clean the ported vacuum selector switch, then apply a fresh coating of dielectric silicone grease at the contact faces of the switch, and reassemble with fairly good success.

I think it might be one of two scenarios now:
1. Brown wire is fryed
2. Blower Motor is gone.

In either case, what should I do? I think I'm getting power on the brown wire, but should I change the connector or just couple the wires or something? How can I check to see if it's the blowere motor, or is that even a reasonable concern? I'm getting the vacuum connections now, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. Thanks for your help so far, keep it comin
