Do I have rod knock?
I have read the posts about rod knock, but I am not sure exactly what is wrong with my 305. It has had this ever since I bought it. I thought at first it was an exhaust leak, but I had my exhaust system checked and they said it was "perfect."
Here's the deal:
My car makes ticking noises and slight knocking noises. When the car is cold, they are hard to hear, but as soon as the engine gets up to operating temp I can hear them easy. The first knock is more of a puff, puff, puff heard fairly loud at idle coming from the driver's side of the engine. I thought this one was the exhaust leak, but its not, maybe piston slap? I don't know. The other is a ticking/knocking noise during accellaration. It too seems to be coming from the rear passenger side of the engine. Does this sound like rod knock to you?

Being a victim of rod knock myself (https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=289589)
I'd have to say no ticking at cold start up would indicate it isn't. It would be constant and get louder as the rpm's increase and be consistent with the rpms, in my case I could actually feel the damn vibrations in my clutch pedal and the car would shake.
Your situation sounds like an exhaust leak, valves need adjusting or stuck lifter.

Does your car have the Smog pump or AIR system?, i know the AIR system with a leak will sound like a ticking, but very fast.
