Ok so I have an 82 z28 LG4, it has the older style evap canister. Most of the line running from the canister have been burnt/rotted..or have been removed previously. So I have a canister sitting stagnant just taking up space.

What is the proper way to removed the canister(safely)?

Do i just block of the vent line from the tank and get a vented gas cap? When i go to the parts store will they know what i mean by "vented gas cap"?

Hook it back up.

If you do a search, you will find a couple threads about this, and opinions on keeping it or pitching it. It doesn't cost any power when hooked up correctly, and it will keep your garage from smelling like gas with a vented cap.

Like i said, half of the valves are missing and the lines were all tore up(plus that tray is starting to rust out ). I would "hook it up" if all the pieces were still there.

Ive dug through a few posts where they ended up in a debate about it.

What I want is a definitive answer on how to safely and properly remove the canister if youre going to remove it. Not a debate about why you shouldn't.

I had to remove mine to allow for a cold-air intake. I didn't think it would cause a problem to remove it, but I wasn't sure so I just unbolted it and screwed in some large bolts into the rubber hoses. I meant to check it out, see how things went, problems, whatever and if all was good, I was going to plug the hoses the right way. Speaking of that, now I have something to do...

Ok, so I just did this yesterday. I searched around on here for info on how to do it properly but because everyone would rather argue about doing it or not instead of sharing their knowledge, I decided to do it myself and just figure it out with trial and error.

well, its quite simple actually. Just disconnect or cut all the vacuum lines/gas lines and plug them off. I got a multi-size vacuum cap set to plug em off. There was a total of 2 vacuum lines and one line that goes back to the gas tank. This is, I believe, your vapor intake line. At first I didn't plug this one because the way it should work is just a pressure release for your gas tank. So I rerouted it out to the bottom and passenger side of my engine bay so I didn't have gas fumes in the bay. If you plug it you will need to get a vented gas cap so you don't build pressure in the tank.

When I didn't plug this line I actually had raw gas pour out of it as I drove. This goes back to why I originally took out the canister in the first place. Gas leaking out the bottom of the canister. I'm not sure why it was doing this but I'm confident that this was just a personal issue and shouldn't affect your "deletes". I did plug the line incase you didn't figure that out and I have had no idle or power issues. It will be getting less gas mileage, but in my case I'll be getting better mpg do to the fact that my gas is going to my engine and not the ground anymore lol.

gonna bring this one back from the dead...if you do this delete can you just put a little bottle or something at the end of the purge line? The charcoal canister set up is kind of messy, but I wouldn't wanna waste all the gas spilling out

I used vice grips to fold over the metal line and a use vented cap

I plan on hooking it back tho up when i find a junker with all the parts
