Help, oil pump or gage cause of low oil pressure ?
As always, I'm loathe to bring my car in to the mechanic (do most work myself). So, the gage indicates 0 oil pressure sometimes (car used to be solid 30 or 60 psi). What are the best and easiest ways to figure out if its a sensor/gage problem vs. oil pump problem.

I had the same problem, and all it was, was the oil sender that is bolted on the back of the manifold. It looks like a small fuel filter with an electrical connector. Or it could be the one that is right above your oil filter. I changed both of mine, they are inexpensive. Hopefully that is all that is wrong.

YUP, i'll bet $$money$$ that its your oil sending unit.
mine was out for a while and would constantly drop to '0' when i hit the brakes to a complete stop. replaced it, and now i'm gold.

Easiest way is to verify the pressure with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Your sending unit should be above your oil filter.

The oil sending unit that is on the rear manifold,or some people call it an INTAKE. It is right next to the distributor on the drivers side. Your oxygen sensor is screwed into your drivers side exhaust manifold.
