How do you determine the correct push rod length?

use a pushrod length checker, available at most decent parts stores and all speed shops.

Well, I know that there is a push rod checker, but how do you perform the check, what do you look for?

You try to find the rocker arm height that will produce the least amount of travel across the valve tip as it actuates the valve.

Varying the push rod length will vary the rocker arm height.
