Removing Cruise Control
Removing Cruise Control
I did a basic reading in my cheapy chiltons book but i need more clarification before i proceed, simply because the book sucks in providing vacuum line diagrams that you can actually see. The ones they have look like they've been sent back and forth between fax machines multiple times.
Well I know you have to remove the cable from the throttle body to the servo, which is a snap, and then disconnect the two vacuum lines from the servo and remove the servo. Also need to disconnect and remove some switching up by the brakes inside of the car, which I haven't looked at yet but should be easy to do.
I have a few questions concerning what I can and cannot remove as far as the vacuum lines go. I have some photos to help illustrate what I'm talking about.
First off, there is the vacuum line that comes from the spherical vacuum canister on the underside of the car, as seen here.

This vacuum line goes to a T fitting which splits to the cruise control servo on one side, and to somewhere else that I will point out later. cruise control servo vacuum line removed from T fitting as seen here.

Q. When I removed the vacuum line from the T fitting it released, and so I'm guessing the T fitting isn't hollow all the way through, so it doesn't affect the other line? Or if it does affect the other line do i need to find a new fitting or something?
There was another, much larger in diameter, vacuum hose which I disconnected from the servo as well, as seen here.

I could not determine where this vacuum line led to, I could only follow it until a short distance from the servo when it goes into a sort of deteriorating tunnel-like harnass as seen here.

Q. Where does this line go to? Is it safe to remove the entire thing?
Okay well, back to the original vacuum line that split off the T fitting. I following it alongside the drivers side of the car, back behind the plenum and distributor as seen here.

The line then splits from another T fitting, one smaller line going into the adjacent wiring harnass which I could no longer follow, then another larger in diameter line going into the rear passenger side of the plenum as seen here. Also seen here, the wiring harnass that the smaller wire enters.

Q. I'm guessing now then, that i cannot remove this vacuum line where it started, or the spherical vacuum canister either, because it provides all engine vacuum functions? Or does it not?
Well thanks for any help, and if you do help, would you be kind enough to quote the question you're answering, that'd be a great help thanks.
Oh and heres a snapshot of my newly installed STB.

I like how it looks in there, don't know if it makes a big difference or not but its great anyways. Only one thing, the insulation type material on the underside of the hood hits and rubs it, scuffing it up. Is it okay to simply rip all of that material off or does it provide some sort of superior insulation that i need.
Thanks guys

Just plug the small line at the cruise servo. You need the canister for the vents and stuff under your dash.
okay so how do i take the servo out if i can't disconnect the large vacuum hose?
also what about the t-fitting question i had, do i need a new fitting because i removed the small vacuum line from the servo
and what do all of the other vacuum lines do that i posted up pics of, like the ones going to the TB
