Idle is way too high

Well, now that i've found that timing was my problem with lack of power (discussed in another post), I have the timing way up, but along with that, my idle is really high, like 1100-1500. Very annoying with open header. How can I get my idle down? The idle screw is all the way out. any ideas?

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. I just went through the same thing. My car would idle at 600 rpm with the curb idle screw all the way out. I checked and found no vacuum leaks, but I could kill the car by cupping my hands over the carb. I removed the carb and found the primaries and secondaries were hanging open slightly. I found the throttle plates weren't installed correctly and they couldn't close completely. Where is the timing set at now. The more advanced, the higher it will idle. It should still die if the idle screw is all the way out though, unless it's getting air from somewhere else. Without air the engine won't run.

doubt its a vacuum leak, it onmly has 2 lines and they are all clamped. I know cause I found they would become very lose when heated and I thought that could be a problem with my prpevious power loss. I dunno where the timing is REALLY, but according to my light and the tab, it's at 65* (read my previous posts before telling me im insane). The idle was nice and low when I had the timing down, but the car didnt run right, in fact, it had no power at all (again, see previous posts). I might just need to up the vacuum advance even more and turn down the base, that might fix it. everything is brand new. I took apart the carb and checked everything when searching for my flooding problem.

any other ideas?

You're sure there is no vacuum leak between the heads and intake, or the carb main body and baseplate? Honestly I would fix the timing issue first. I seem to remember something about a missing timing tab or wrong tab. You need to know where the timing is.

agreed. I sprayed water around all of the areas and found no leaks. The problem didnt occue until I upped the timing.
