Smoke on Shutoff!!
Ok I bought this old 83 T/A 305 Crossfire for about 2k. High Miles. It cost me about 1400 just to get it to pass smog check in LA. It runs pretty well. Starts right up everytime. But now whenever I shut the car off the engine smokes for about 3 min and has a mild burning smell. The smoke seems to come from the back of the engine. It never smokes on start up or while driving. I do notice a smell while idling but no smoke until shut off. Is this engine close to being toast or what?? Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks

what tends to happen is the valve cover gaskets get worn out then a little oil splashes out the it burns off the side of the motor, it probaly smokes when it runs to but not as noticeable, like i said its not a real biggy. Mine does this too but im just going to leave it.

Transmission: Caged hamster that runs really fast
Axle/Gears: They are round, I know that much
Just to cement in the valve cover gasket answer, same here, except mine leaks down onto my exhaust.....argh, just been lazy about getting new covers.
