stock 416 heads or ported? i'm anxious to see how they work for you.
what are you doing for the y-pipe? painted with the same high temp paint I hope? (mine wasn't, and is rusting, as of 3 weeks runtime now...)
did you paint the manifold yourself? did you bake it?
looks nice, hope it don't leak!

Yes i painted the manifold... Its on there good to match the heads it wont leak, its the same deal i did to my last one... worked like a champ... plus all gasket services are bare.
The Ypipe will not be painted...no real need to... same color as the headers

I didn't mean expect an intake leak, just, "hope your car doesn't leak", now that you've built it all up. Mine is leaking like a seive from all sorts of places...
was the y-pipe painted by the factory then? Your headers look like mine, after I VHT sprayed them, but my y-pipe I just left with the factory glossier black paint... It flaked off in a few days, and is now proceeding to rust.

the rust that nelapse will encounter down here in GA is much less than what you'll experience up in Canada. it'll surface rust almost immediately, but the rust down here doesn't eat through stuff like it does up north. getting headers/y-pipes ceramic coated up north does more than just make underhood temps lower, it gaurantees a few extra years of life for the headers, protecting them from the rust.

I am trying to figure out why it would leak?
If you use the right gaskets and put a nice bead of sealant on the china walls then why would it leak?
Ive put my previous edelbrock intake on and off several times... no problems... now I always use a 3m wheel to clean the surfaces of the intake portion of the heads...
My headers are factory painted and are basically a brown color but I wouldnt call it rusted.. Y-pipe is still very black..

while true, it's very dry in Calgary particularly, i'm not sure how close you are to the ocean (my geography of USA is probably as bad as some americans of Canada is ) but if it's humid, that'll do it too. Mine have surface rusted, and i'm not overly concerned about rusting through, not with the 4 months of annual driving I get with it
i'm thinking you aren't using a gasket at all, hence my confusion...?
----------
beats me Mine sure as hell did.
I didn't mean your intake manifold, I just meant, "good luck with your new motor, hope it doesn't leak". Just a thumbs up is all. I built mine TO THE LETTER of David Vizards "how to rebuild your SBC", and i've had an intake manifold leak, I think a header and/or y-pipe leak, and now I think a RMS or oil pan leak...

My ypipes never leak, my header gaskets are header matched and as long as you clean the surfaces and apply plenty of sealant you are good... I use the copper rtv from permatex... stuff is hard core you can see the bead of the copper if you look carefully at the front of my intake, The pics are a bit blurry I will take better ones tomorrow...

I used permatex red, I think, for my entire motor... And a Summit brand gasket kit, $28 I think for every gasket on the SBC. I think some were subpar quality... i'll be looking for my rear motor oil leak tonight maybe...
when is that going to be ready to run?
