is it possible my rings didnt seat?
during a discussion on what I could sell my car for at the current state, my friend said my motor is blowing blue smoke, he says it's because when we broke in the motor, we didnt drive it and put a load on it. The motor is a fresh 310 build, the short block was done by Waynes engine shop in cali and I put the rest together with my friends help. The car wasnt drivable for months after we did the cam break in and during that time, trying to get other things running and working right like the cooling system and gauges, etc. I ran the motor for at least an hour or more grand total. Once I was able to get the car drivable I drive it. Could doing it the way I did cause the rings not to seat?
I personally dont see any smoke, but he drove behind me the other day and said he saw it. I have a tranny leak again and now that I have exhaust right by the tranny, I'm thinking that it what he saw, plus the motor isnt tuned at all.
What do you think?

if it wasn't tuned, its probably running rich, and that's the problem. Watch your plugs, and tune it that way for rich/lean.
Then go and BAG ON IT. Like crazy. Like you stole it. But only after you have the mixture right. While doing this I think you will re-consider selling you car
Ever notice when a magazine article does a dyno test with a nitrous motor, they do a base line HP test, then hit it with N20, then re-baseline it? The re-baseline is ALWAYS up 10-20HP. It seats the rings very forcefully.

so if the rings didnt seat, could they still be seated by doing something? I've driven the car around beck and forth to home and what not. Is there only a certain time frame window to get the rings seated or what?

Yea, sorta. "they" say you seat the rings in the first 20 miles. That's whats scary though, you spend that first amount of time tuning the carb and such, so you miss that window. Engine braking also helps seat the rings.
However, those N20 tests I mention, are usually like 150,xxx mile shortblocks from the JY, that they blast with nitrous. It re-seats the rings.
I'd say you have nothing to lose, go for it. After having the carb in a state good enough that you don't think you'll blow a piston out. So if you're not running super lean, you should be ok.
