power steering pump

ok this may sound like a stupid question but i am getting ready to buy a march serp pulley kit and i need to know what power steering pump my car has. it was a v8 car with a carb original and it still has the factory pump and lines. my question is will the 22050 kit from march work with my pump. o yeah my water pump is the long version so all that is ok. any advise woulod be great. thanks.

the difference between pumps is weather the pulley attaches to the shaft with a key or with a wedge. only way your gonna know is if you either take it somewhere so a guy can look at it or post pics. im pretty sure that most camaros came with the wedge design. but if your psp isnt off a camaro, it may be different design.

bottom line...post a pic of the psp so we can see how the pulley is attached to the psp shaft

IIRC the majority of third gens and rear drive GM for that matter used the Saginaw style with a pressed on pulley. The odds are good that you would most likely need the 22060 kit. Of course there may be exceptions, like Gramps said post a pic or find a competent mechanic, he should be able to know with a few seconds of looking.

I am going to take the pump to work tomorrow and pull the pulley to find out what style it is.( I am a service advisor at a local dealership)

Assuming it is the original pump, it will have a pressed on pulley. GM stopped using keyslot pumps in the mid 70s.

well i brought the pump to work today and pulled the pulley off and found that it is the pressed style. i am confident that it is the saginaw type. I am really hoping that the march kit i am looking at will be maint. free.
