305tpi wont start???
I posted this in the tpi section, but figured i should post it in here also. I have an 88 camaro with a 305tpi/700r4. When I try starting it the starter turns the flex plate, but the pulleys don't move. I was told it could be one of two thing. Either my crankshaft snapped or the bolts bolting the flexplate to the crankshaft broke or fell out. The strange thing is one day it was running fine, and the next mourning it wouldn't start up. So my question is could it be anything else? Or which one is more likley to happen? I know I have to pull the trans out to check the bolts to see if they fell out or broke, just wanna make sure it couldn't be something else before I do. Also the starter in engaging and the flex plate is spinning. Thanks

how fast is the starter spinning the flexplate? like it has no drag or a little?
pretty sure that if the flexplate bolts snapped the the flexplate would have slid back into the tranny but i am not sure niether is very likely to happen with a pretty much stock 305... could the crank pully be turning but not moving the belt? water pump frozen?

The flexplate spins pretty fast. It also looks to be spinning straight. I would think if the bolts brok it would be spinning really shakey and make some funny noises. Not sure on the pulleys, when somebody gets home I'll have them try to start the car and i'll watch all the pulleys.
----------
ok, my brother just got home and he tryed starting it while I watched the pulleys. Nothing up front moves. None of the pulleys spin or even look like there trying to.

yes i would think it would wobble pretty bad if it were the flexplate to crank bolts have you tried turning the crank pully by hand?
