Passenger side valve cover...

Hi all. Another dumb question. I took off all the smog stuff and cat, gutted the air intake boxes and while doing all this, i cracked a hose coming off the intake to the passenger side valve cover. I noticed some oil on the cover so i replaced what i thought to be a PCV valve. But, i have one on the drivers side also. Is this correct? It is a 1992 Z28 305/700R4. It ran really good till i did the PCV thing, now it surges when it gets warm and gets terrible mileage. But, you sure can tell the difference with the smog stuff off and gutting the air cleaner boxes. Thanks for that info! Anyway, can someone tell me what should go on the passenger side valve cover? Thanks

Re: Passenger side valve cover...

it should be a vent to the air intake some where or a breather if you prefer to have oil all over the engine compartment

A vent? Meaning a PCV valve?

Re: Passenger side valve cover...

Ok. I think i figured out the surging thing. The plug in wire on the front sensor to the intake fell off (whatever it is)...lol. Now it runs fine. Now i have done the "bypass the throttle body" thing. I didn't notice much difference, if any. But, i will say gutting the Intake filter area really helped. And of course the whole smog system delete did too.

Re: Passenger side valve cover...

no not a pcv you already have one you need to vent the other valve cover in some manner stock form it goes into the air intake track at some point before the throttle blades... some people use a small open element filter...

Well, will having a PCV in there hurt?

Re: Passenger side valve cover...

The point of that tube is to suck air into the motor. With a pcv valve there it wont.

Re: Passenger side valve cover...

You could take the PCV valve you have and cut the bottom off and take the guts out.
