quick chip question- please help
i did a search and couldn't find exactly what i was looking for.
i was looking @ the JET performance chips on summit racing today and i was wondering if it would do anything on an 83 computer controlled carb'd LG4.
if so, should i get the chip for the LG4 or the L69? would it make any difference? could it hurt anything? stage 1 or 2? (i have the L69 air cleaner, flowmaster exhaust w/ high flow cat, and a 180* thermostat- stock other than that)
and i know a lot of you absolutely hate the aftermarket chips but i'm not looking to go racing- its just a daily driver that i want to get better-than- stock performance on.
any help/ advice/ comments are greatly appreciated.

Re: quick chip question- please help
all a chip is going to do is give a little more timing and if you are very lucky a little more fuel...
you can accomplish the same thing by advancing the base timing for free...
those "performance" chips are useless if you have the mods to need a new chip then you should invest in your own tuning equipment it will cost about the same as just one of those performance chips

Re: quick chip question- please help
is there anyone else who has a computer controlled carb who has some kind of performance chip? anyone who has experience with the CCC ECM's?

Re: quick chip question- please help
does it really matter if it will work or not on a carb car as more often then not they cause more problems then they solve.
again all they do is advance the timing a tad. rather then spend 100+ bucks on one go out to your car take out a wrench loosen the distributor and advance it. there you have the same effect and just saved a lot of money. oh and to make sure you get the full effect that the chip would give you advance it far enough to where it starts to ping. your not doing it right but you did get the same effect as that "performance" chip

Re: quick chip question- please help
actually you know that sounds about right.punkdude these chips are a generic one size fits all tuning. which means the guy who tuned the chip has no idea what combo of parts your running. what type of gas you run. what your climate is like, what temp of thermostat you use, or anything else about your car. but he is going to make something that will adjust the tune of your car. does that really sound like a smart safe and sound idea for the longevity and performance of your vehicle? if so I can save you a couple bucks and throw something together to tune your car as well under the same situation.
