CAM ISSUES
so I had this 406 motor ran good but the oil had metallic in it (it was in a car when i bought it) so i pulled it out and it sat on a stand for a while now i finally get around to pulling it apart and it had a retro-hydr roller in it. the guy didnt use a cam button or a torrington bearing so there were minor marks on the timing cover and block (guy said there was only a couple thousand miles on the motor) so i was planing on using this cam in my 383 project but the cam has has 2 lobes with minor grooves? (if you could call them that) in it im wondering if this will posse any issues or should i have the cam ground or run it like that ? i plan on getting a cam button and torrington bearing, would it still be ok to run or is that cam "whiped" out, the lifters that came out of this same motor are fine still tight and no marks on the roller tips woaht would you guys do in this situation

Re: CAM ISSUES
Sad to say, that cam looks like it has gone to the big cam retirement home in the sky.
It's a cast cam; no grinding that. It's pretty much toast.
I'd get a new cam. Maybe a billet one this time instead of cast.
A Torrington cam sprocket isn't "necessary", or even particualrly urgently desirable. Not a bad thing but far from a "must do". A cam button, on the other hand, is needed.
That doesn't look like it was caused by lack of either. Looks more like valve spring setup. Looks like coil bind, specifically.
