First Startup Smoke
Hey, I just tried to start my car after rebuilding the engine getting the headers coated and painting the Y pipe. Their is a lot of smoke coming from the engine bay I turned it off once I saw smoke filling up the cab. I know smoke is normal after coating the headers for a little while but it started in the first few seconds of start up and got really bad. So is a lot of smoke normal from this?

Thanks for the fast response!! How long do you think it will take for it to burn whatever is burning off?

Re: First Startup Smoke
Let it run for about 1/2 an hour and see what happens. Keep an eye on it of course, but it should clear up. Lots of places that coat headers will still put a very light coating of oil on the headers before they are boxed and shipped, like they do with basic painted headers. They do it to keep it from corroding untill after you get them. Theres also all the grease that gets transfered from your hands to your parts when you are installing them. All that shipping oil coat and junk from your hands will burn off when you first run it and get it hot.
