I have a 85 IROC That I building a engine (350) for and would like some cam recomendations. I have a 30 forged flat top pistons, vortec heads, performer RPM intake, Hooker 13/4 shorty headers, walker Dyno max cat back exhaust system, and 750 holley carb. I have a 700 R4 and 327 geared 9 bolt. I will drive the car on the street on week ends and run it at the local 1/8 mile drag strip about 10 times a year.

I'd say intake duration of 22x-mid 230's. This should be around the limit of vacuum for the brakes, and would probably like a 2800-3000+ stall.

Crane Cam #113802 (thats a cam+ hyd lifter set)
make sure the vortecs are properly modified to hangle the high lift
use 1.6 intake rockers and 1.5 exhaust rockers.

A 3000-3200 stall with lock up and some sticky rear tires would be nice for the drags.
Add a simple plate 150-175hp nitrous system (with a dedicated fuel supply) and a spark retard box and thats about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.

call Cam Motion and get whatever they spec out for you... Even if the specs seem way off to what you think your motor needs. Trust me you won't regret it.

Thanks for the help. I was wondering how a big cam will run in overdrive with 327 rear gears.

Never had a problem with mine. I'd pull pretty steep hills in overdrive, converter locked, and motor around 1200rpm and have no problem with my 246/254 dur @ .050 cam.

Buddy of mine said he thought the cam would cut up while trying to drive it in overdrive. Looking at a crane 100072 .480 lift 228 duration on 112. I also have a Comp 268 that is 450 lift 218 duration on 114.

I guess I do remember it would bump the car like back and forth on a level road if you basically idled it along under 1500 or 1400rpm, which unlocking the converter stops that. I don't think that's going to be an issue, or at least a big issue, with cams in the 220's duration though.

The GM '847' roller cam would be alot of fun in that motor. Its a pretty big cam, but that combo should support it (236/242 @ .050 IIRC). Very popular with the LTx crowd, on their EFI and carb'd motors, and the Vortec heads and LT1/4 heads are very similar.
