proper distributor ID ?

proper distributor ID ?

I have an L98 that I am going to be putting into my car over the winter, and it is of course a roller cam engine. I need to find the correct dizzy that has the proper hardened/bronze/etc/etc cam gear on it since I don't want to chance it getting chewed up and destroying my motor.
Does anyone know how to determine if the dizzy I have is in fact from a roller cam motor and has the proper gear aleady in place. (Is there a way to test the gear in any way). I have 3 or 4 dizzy's that are all the correct version (small cap) but i have no idea of telling if any of them were in fact from a roller motor originally.
I know I can buy the aftermarket gear, but they are rediculous in price (IMO) and I just like to use something I may already have.

It is one I bought off a member on another forum. Was told it is a stock cam from an 89 350 TPI Camaro.

BTW, I don't have the dizzy from the L98 I have, but I have a few that may be from a roller cam motor..........but then again, maybe they weren't.
That is why i was hoping someone may know a trick in determining if any are the correct GEAR in particular.

Don't worry about it unless you're using an aftermarket cam and the manufacturer specifically says it needs a specialized distributor gear.

Well, I bought the cam from someone through the mail, and that leaves a hint of doubt on wether or not it is in fact exactly what I was told, and from an 89 L98.
I don't want to take the chance of a regular gear riding on a hardened cam (any roller cam is in fact harder, I believe).
I guess I will just pay the rediculous price for an aftermarket gear that is meant for roller cam use.
Thanks for your help Apeiron, and I am not meaning to doubt you, I just hate to take that chance since I have read numerous times how a roller cam is supposed to have the proper dizzy gear with it (???)
