V6 air filter to V8 filter
OK, I wrote a thread a year ago talking about me wanting to put in a cold air intake. Some one said something about putting a V8 intake on it and it stuck with me. I recently really got it in my head to want to do this cause 1. It would most likely let air in faster then the v6 and 2. I really think the V6 air intake is a eye sore or at less not as cool looking as the 8V.
Now the questions
1. Will it just pop in to place (I believe, the frames were made the same and later on what was put on it determined the type but just to make sure)
2. Will the deletion on the v6 air filter be easy? (I'm pretty sure it is but again just asking)
3. Has anyone done this cause it just seems like I couldn't be the 1st to do this?

Re: V6 air filter to V8 filter
I would really love to look into doing this to my car too. Right now i just removed the end of the air box and assembly and relocated the sensor and added a K&N filter on the end. I think it helped some. Let us know how the conversion went. Im very interested in doing this also!

Re: V6 air filter to V8 filter
Ok so I was trying to find out if the intake of the V8 was the same shape as the V6 and ran across this. Thought I would post it.

Re: V6 air filter to V8 filter
First of all, to make the job easier you want an intake of a 2.8L because those have the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor in the airbox like the 3.1L does. However you will need to extend that wire to reach the new location (I soldered and use shrink wraps so it looked good and is weather tight). You will need the IAT or the check engine light will come on. Then to get the box connected, I did not use the 2.8L MAF like some people do (plus the junk yard wanted to charge me for it so I ripped that thing off and said I didn't want it). I went and got an intake coupler (the red piece in the picture above) and a small piece of exhaust pipe and painted the pipe flat black and then used those to connect to the stock tube off the throttle body (which you will need to use unless you want to fab up something for the PCV tube).
It will just drop right in, but I believe the bottom box hits the cross bars in front of the radiator but I just pushed hte box past where it hit and secured it down.
Everything for the stock 3.1L intake does come out except for the base the filter sits on because the charcoal canister mounts on that too.
